Member & Partner Appreciation Day – October 11, 2019

Join us for this annual event that attracts 150+ professionals from higher education, government and K-12. Attendance is complimentary for all organizational members of both Edge, the region’s nonprofit technology partner, and the Virtual Academic Library Environment (VALE). This event is ideal for information technology professionals (CIOs, network admins, network engineers, etc.), librarians, faculty, instructional designers, cabinet members, and administrators throughout the educational institution (enrollment, admissions, and marketing).

Attendees will hear about the state of technology in education and government across New Jersey and the NYC metro area. We’ll highlight some of Edge’s role at the center of transformations happening as a result of technology and connect our members with industry leading sponsors in a variety of focus areas, including cloud technology, virtualization, cybersecurity, high-performance networking, and operational support services. Participants will also enjoy an engaging panel discussion about the challenges and needs of preparing the future workforce.

And finally, we will recognize outstanding achievements from our member community – professionals who are improving instruction, research, and operations through the use of technology.

Panel Discussion: Perspectives on the Future of Work

Work as we know it is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. Consider the following, and what it means for the future of work:

“65% of students entering college this year will ultimately be working in jobs that don’t currently exist.” – The World Economic Forum

The demands on our workforce and the skills needed by graduates continue to change. Driven by the challenges of a shifting technological ecosystem – including data science, automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence – how can we prepare learners and the existing workforce for the ever-changing work landscape they’ll face?

We’ll explore how the future of work will impact traditional college graduates, nontraditional students, and the current workforce alike. What is the role of certificate and short-term training programs as compared to formal education? Our esteemed panelists bring their unique perspectives on the impact of current technology and work organization and its meaning for workers in the workplace of the future.
